Why You Need To Practice Self-care

I came back on Sunday from another 10-day silent retreat. This retreat I went out to Quebec for and the site where it was held was beautiful!!

The night before I left I stayed up late writing a few blog posts to be published during my absence. I was about to write this one on self-care when I realized 2 things: 1) how late it was and I had an early flight and 2) it was a little hypocritical of me to write about needing to practice self-care while staying up way to late.

Over the course of this year I have done a lot of traveling for my mindfulness training with trips to California, Florida and New York. I also have several more trips planned before the end of this summer. A big part of my plan for 2016/2017 in addition to finishing up my mindfulness training and my masters program is to rebuild my endurance and strength from the accident.

It has been just about a year since my HBOT treatments finished and my wound finally healed!! YAY!! A couple of times along the way the skin opened up a little but more like a typical cut or scab and nothing like it was before. I will always need to be extra careful with my incision line because it will take longer for it to heal than a cut anywhere else. However, other than using sunscreen and non-permanent organic dyes and protecting my head from harm I can go back to living a normal life.

As you have read, I have had a long history of my incision line breaking down and refusing to heal.

As I mentioned last week, my doctors ran several tests and sent me for several scans to try and find out why my incision line kept breaking down and wouldn’t heal. I was also placed on several antibiotics in addition to topical treatments that I used in an attempt to heal.

One of my doctors, Dr. Cross, is a wound care specialist and she was placed in charge of my care because she knows wounds.
