When I headed out to Rhinebeck, New York last month for my recent mindfulness retreat, I flew out a few days early to spend sometime in NYC. This was my first solo trip and it was AMAZING!! I had 48 hours in the city and I decided to use my time wisely.
How to spend 48 hours in New York City
- Visit Central Park – Central Park is MASSIVE and you could literally spend days walking around it. With a short time frame you need to figure out what parts of the park you want to see and make a plan. I had been to Central Park before so I knew what areas I wanted to see. Armed with a map and the GPS on my phone, I managed to tick off everything on my list.
- Take the NYC hop on/hop off tour bus – The hop on/hop off bus tour is a great way to see the city, and it is something that I try to do whenever I visit a city. The NYC one takes you around to Times Square, Central Park and a lot of the different hot spots in the city. I was staying near the Financial District so I picked up the bus over by the charging bull statue. This statue is always crowded by tourists and it can be challenging to get a decent shot. I managed to get a few shots in between tourists.
- See a Broadway show – Seeing a Broadway show is always a great time! I love going to the theatre and some of the best shows are on Broadway. Tickets can be expensive but if you download the TodayTix app you can pick up some last minute tickets at a reduced price.
- Head to Rockefeller Centre – Rockefeller Centre is another hot spot in NYC. During the Christmas season it’s a great place to visit to see their tree and the Christmas decorations that they put up. All year long it is still a great place to see. I stopped there for my dinner and it was delicious!!
- Shop on 5th Avenue – I think that this goes with out saying but 5th avenue is the place to shop in NYC!! Ted Baker, Sephora, Henri Bendel, the list goes on and on. Even if you are just window shopping 5th avenue is definitely worth the experience! I definitely did some browsing on my travels but alas, no purchasing. With all of the trips I have planned this summer I need to be watching my spending so I am keeping a tight watch on my purse strings!
This list is just the beginning of some of the things that you can do with 48 hours in New York City. The best part is that all of them can be done when travelling solo. I really enjoyed my first solo trip and I am heading out soon on another solo trip. This time to Chicago!! I can’t wait!! 🙂
Bonus tip: Head to Momofuku Milk Bar to pick up a delicious goodie or two 🙂 Since I am gluten-free, I picked up some of the Perfect 10 Klossies. These cookies or pretty darn good!! I especially love anything that also promotes a good cause and the sale of every perfect 10 klossie provides 10 school lunches to hungry kids around the world. A good cookie and a good cause = win-win.
