6 Weeks Later It Starts Again

As I mentioned, I finally had my prosthesis surgery to get my prosthesis put in. I was so happy to get through this milestone event. I had big plans coming up and I was determined that I was not going to miss out. I had to miss out on a lot of events after the accident, but my friend Jenn was getting married at the end of August and I was determined to go.

Jenn is a total sweetheart and we were working together when she first met her husband so I wanted to be there for her on her big day. The surgery was scheduled for four weeks before the wedding, to the day, so I figured I would have just enough time to be well enough to go for a few hours. A deep side part and a braid in my hair and I was good to go!!

My mom came with me as my date!!

That night, everything went well! I stayed for the ceremony and into the reception. Once the dancing started up it was my cue to go home. It was late and I was exhausted!! But I went and I had so much fun! 🙂

A few weeks later, mom and I came down to my apartment for a few days. The plan was to start easing my way back home so we started off by just hanging out downtown and being in the city.  So mom and I decided to play tourist and we went on the hop on/hop off bus tour of downtown Toronto. 6 weeks later, wound, surgery, incision line, not healing, doctors, Toronto

We had a great week! I was supposed to see one of my doctors that week but they had to reschedule for a few weeks later. Which turned out to be perfect timing.

6 Weeks

Our trip downtown took place about 6 weeks after the surgery. At the end of that week, I noticed a small little scab on the back of my head on top of my incision line. It was starting again.

6 weeks. There is something about that timeline that haunts me. The last time the skin had broken down was exactly 6 weeks after finishing my PICC line dose of Vancomycin. Apparently 6 weeks is the amount of time needed for the body to re-stabilize itself after being on medication. I guess the antibiotics I was given around the surgery were enough to hold it at bay this long.

It started off so slowly. First one wound. Then two. Then a third wound opened up. From September until the beginning of February the wounds continued to grow until the formed one big one. So, we immediately started back to regularly seeing my team of doctors as they tried to figure out what was wrong. We tried so many different things. Tests were run. Second (third, fourth, fifth…) opinions were sought. So many things were tried and so many different opinions were sought in an attempt to heal my incision line. Again.
