Being Pretty on a Budget: Is It Really Possible?

Today on the blog we have a special treat! Audrey Taylor has contributed a guest post sharing her thoughts on being pretty on a budget. I am definitely in favour of doing anything on a budget! Before we get into her post, I wanted to share a little update with you about my future position on guest posts. I have always been open to the idea of other bloggers coming here and sharing their thoughts and insights but lately I feel like it’s time to move away from guest posting opportunities. I’m telling you this, not because of any one incident or experience. My interactions with Audrey have always been pleasant and the same holds true for every other blogger who has contributed here. I feel a need to be transparent because recently a number of fellow bloggers have reached out to me and I have said no. In fact, this post is the last guest post that I will be publishing on my blog for the foreseeable future. That being said, it’s time to hear from Audrey.

Being Pretty on a Budget

Even though the beauty and the fashion industries encourage us to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on their latest launches, the truth is that these aren’t really bare necessities. In fact, they are often too pricey and unnecessary, which is why you should make some smart decisions and save your money. Here are four tips on how to stay pretty on a budget, so check them out and make that happen!

Get beauty and hygiene products at the drugstore

Shopping at drugstores has never been popular more than these days, and reasons for that are more than good. First of all, these offer a much more versatile variety of different products when compared to regular supermarkets. Apart from that, drugstores offer products at more affordable prices than the majority of department stores, which means that you’ll get a chance to save some money without compromising your skincare and makeup routines. The reality is that drugstore products can usually provide similar benefits as expensive designer cosmetics (if chosen properly, of course). You should also know that some drugstore makeup products come off the same assembly line as the pricey designer makeup – but without the fancy packaging and a famous brand name on it. So, the next time you consider buying a $65 Huda Beauty eyeshadow palette, just do a little research and find its cheaper dupe online. You’ll get an extremely similar product, but for far less money!

Pick your makeup products wisely

Speaking of your makeup routine, we must say that less is definitely more – especially when you’re on a budget and can’t really afford to keep up with the latest trends in the beauty industry. Buying multipurpose products is never a bad idea, so you can always switch from your favorite foundation to a tinted moisturizer. Apart from providing enough coverage and hiding the minor flaws on your face, it will also hydrate your skin and nourish it properly, which means that you’ll kill two birds with one stone. You can pick a tinted moisturizer with SPF, so that you can save on your sunscreen, too! On the other hand, you can save on eye products like mascara if you opt for quality silk eyelash extensions. No matter how expensive this may sound, the fact is that you can find a beauty salon that offers affordable eyelash extensions – even though they’re made from silk. After all, these will save both your money and your time in the long run, as you won’t have to use mascara or false lashes any longer. Just be wise with your makeup choices and you’ll do a great job!

Stop paying attention to current trends and wear what you actually like

Speaking of your fashion choices, we must say that keeping up with current trends is what you should avoid at all costs. First of all, most of these trends are here to come and go, and the majority of trendy pieces can’t actually be worn out of the runway. Besides that, investing thousands of dollars in pieces that are currently in style is completely nonsensical – unless they perfectly fit into your personal style. So, instead of trying to follow the trends blindly, you should focus on defining your individual style and actually wear what looks good on you. Knowing your body shape is the key to success in this case, so be sure to understand your figure and you’ll undoubtedly do a great job. Of course, you can also match some classic pieces like a quality pair of jeans, a tailored black blazer, and a white button-down with a pair of trendy high heels and a matching bag. Such pieces will refresh your overall combo and give it a modern, contemporary vibe, but without breaking the bank, which is exactly what matters most, right?

Use men’s products instead of women’s designed for the same purpose

Yes, we can freely say that it’s quite expensive to be a woman, and there’s even a so-called ‘pink tax’ to prove this claim true. Basically, this is a surcharge in which women are often charged more than men for many products that are designed for the same purpose. One study showed that this is a problem that affects females from their birth until they’re senior citizens, but you don’t have to worry at all because we have a great solution to it. For example, you can always buy razors, razor cartridges, and shaving creams that are meant for men, as these are much more affordable than pink ones designed just for the ladies. The same goes for shampoos, conditioners, and deodorants, which are also cheaper than ladies’ shampoos, conditioners, and deodorants. That’s the case with clothing items like shirts, too, so there’s an option of buying men’s shirts which are particularly useful if you love to wear baggy, oversized garments on a daily basis. As you can see, being pretty is still possible even when you’re on a budget. All you have to do is to stick to our tips and follow our guidelines, and you’ll manage to look fabulous while saving some cash at the same time. Does it get better than that? We don’t think so!
Thank you Audrey! These are some really great tips that you have shared with us. I think my favourite is using men’s products instead of women. I find it a little hard to believe that in 2018 there is still such a thing as a pink tax.
