Dreaming of Spring

It is freezing today in Canada and cold days like this make you stop and wish for spring to arrive! I love the change in seasons because it gives you the chance to update and shake up your wardrobe!!

There is nothing better than being able to go into your closet and pull out those pieces that you haven’t been able to wear for months due to all the snow. Now, I am big into having a season-less wardrobe and adding layers as needed to get as much wear out of your clothes but an item doesn’t have quite the same impact when it’s layered up. Take today’s outfit for example:

I paired a black sweater from RW & Co with a pair of beige shorts from Dynamite. Since it is so cold outside (and in) I added a pair of black fleece tights to stay warm. I also added a leopard print scarf from RW & Co for a little style… and some extra warmth.  Cute? Yes! Stylish? Absolutely! However I would much rather be wearing these shorts with a tank top and sandals but I am several long months away from that.

New seasons also give us the opportunity to update our wardrobe with key pieces from our favourite stores. I like to shop around to make sure that I am getting the biggest bang for my buck and these are the items I am dreaming of for spring!

  1. Denim – be it a shirt or a sweet new pair of jeans, denim is going to be big this year for spring. I already have an awesome jean jacket that I love, and a denim mini so I’m thinking I will probably end up with a denim shirt. I’ve currently got my eye on this one form Dynamite
  2. Spring always brings to mind beautiful flowers which is why I am all over the floral trend for spring. I’m thinking of picking up this sweater from Dynamite. It’s also on sale right now!! Score!! I may just have to take the plunge and purchase it now
  3. Speaking of the floral trend, I’m looking for a great pair of floral leggings or skinnies. So far I haven’t found the right pair yet, but if I do I will let you know. If you know of any leave me a tip in the comments below.
  4. Spring also means skirt weather. I have a couple of skater skirts that I love but this year I am looking for something with more of a flare. I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for the perfect one
  5. I do a lot of out and about these days for work so I’ve been looking for a stylish bag that can carry all that I need without breaking my shoulders. I recently paid a trip to Target Canada for their liquidation sales and scored an adorable mint backpack; its perfect! I can fit my iPad, snacks and all of my essentials for the day
  6. I’m looking for some new shoes for spring (who isn’t?). I’ve noticed that other than my flats, all of my shoes tend to be neutrals. So this year I am making a change and going for a pair of heels in a colour. Maybe something like these from Nine West (they’re also on sale!!)
  7. Speaking of colour, that is what I plan on filling my wardrobe with. Too many neutrals, not enough colour! Over the last year I have made a concentrated effort to inject my closet with more colour. That is definitely a trend I am going to stick too for spring.
  8. Comfy pants for outside the gym. The latest trend has been comfortable pants that can be worn to work or going out on the town. I’ve managed to pick up a few pairs recently at Winners and I am looking forward to wearing them with my wedges and heels in the nicer weather.
  9. With the nicer weather I am looking forward to getting outside and spend more time in the fresh air. I love going for walks and exploring this city, but with the slush, snow and ice I have been sticking closer to home. As spring comes and the snow melts away I am definitely getting back out there! Nothing like the warm sun on your (covered in SPF!) face.
  10. I am also looking forward to doing some travelling. These days I’ve been swamped with projects for work, but they look to be wrapping up in a few months and I should have some downtime before things start to get busy again. I will definitely make some time to get out there and see another slice of this great big world!!
