What to do in Fort Lauderdale Part 1: Heading to the Beach

Last month, Mom and I went out to Fort Lauderdale for two weeks of fun in the sun!! Well, really I went for my Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Practicum but there was sun and I did have some fun!! šŸ™‚

My practicum was nine days long, but mom and I decided to tack on a couple of days before hand and an extra day at the end and make a little holiday. Since we were in Florida, one of the main things on our to do list was to hit the beach!!

Beach bound

My practicum was in Cypress Creek which isn’t far from Fort Lauderdale. My mom and dad had stayed in Fort Lauderdale a few years ago when they were heading out on a cruise and mom remembered the area and said that they had some lovely beaches. Strolling along the sand and dipping our toes in the water seemed just what the doctor ordered.

We spoke to the front desk about arranging transportation to the beach and while we first considered taking the bus, we ended up just taking a taxi. Next time though I will definitely take an uber – much cheaper!! The taxi dropped us off at the beach in Las Olas and we immediately took off our socks and shoes and headed straight for the water!

Of course you need to have some ice cream at the beach!! šŸ™‚

Since my hat kept blowing off I ended up tying my scarf around my head. I think it’s a good look and I’m for sure going to start a new trend šŸ˜‰

Palm trees!!

I’m not able to go and swim in the water just yet, but I was determined to go and wade in as much as possible. I also needed to keep my hat on the whole time to protect my scar. It kept blowing off so after a while I just wrapped my scarf around my head and called it a day. I probably could have done a little better job but I was more concerned with keeping the sun off of my head. Next time.

Mom and I walked along the sand and picked some seashells to bring back with us for my nieces and nephew. It’s something Mom always does when she goes away to a beach location. It’s a nice little tradition and I think they appreciate the fact that she thinks of them when she is away.

The beach here in Las Olas was a little crowded but really all we were looking for was some sand and water and it definitely had both of those. I actually just saw my doctors a few days ago and they said that the skin over my scar has healed so well that the next time I go to the beach I can actually go swimming!! YAY!! šŸ˜€ I will need to wear sunscreen but that’s no big deal. I’m already slathering it on everywhere else what’s one more spot?

If you are heading to Fort Lauderdale you definitely need to make time to head to one of their beaches. Even in the springtime when it wasn’t that hot outside the beach is definitely the place to be.

Charlene xoxo
