Happy Monday!! I can appreciate this sentiment because, as it has been recently pointed out to me, I tend to be a glass half full kind of a gal. I always look for the good in people and things. However when it comes to myself and my own life, I tend to believe that things are not going to work out the way that I want them to because “nothing ever works out right for me”. Or some other negative thinking statement.
At some point you figure that things will have to start going your way, right? But if you are always expecting things to fail, then they will. If for no other reason than you think they will. When in reality things might have worked out for the best, you just might not be able to see it at the time.
How Our Beliefs Can Shape Our Future
A Self Fulfilling Prophecy is a prediction that causes itself to come true due to the simple fact that the prediction was made. This happens because our beliefs influence our actions. If our beliefs can directly or indirectly affect our actions than we need to adjust our beliefs in order to change our actions and as a result our future.
There are many ways our beliefs can shape our future both positively and negatively. If we believe that something good is going to happen to us than we act in such a way to ensure that it will. For example, a promotion is available at work. If you believe that you will get that promotion you will come into work everyday on time or even early, you will be optimistic, and you will probably be doing some of your best work. This attitude will stay with you outside of work carrying over to all of your relationships with partners, friends and children.
On the other hand if you believe that nothing good ever happens to you than you are more likely to not try as hard at work because why bother right? You end up creating a defeatist attitude which will also carry over into every other relationship you have. Then when things go wrong it reinforces your belief that nothing good ever happens to you.
So instead of thinking that nothing good will ever happen to me, or that nothing ever works out the way that I want it to, I’m going to change my outlook and my beliefs. When you look back at your life, sure, not everything has gone the way that you wanted it to. However, I’m sure that a lot of things have gone your way and if they didn’t it’s because you were meant to do something else. Something wonderful is about to happen, you just don’t know where or when.
Speaking of wonderful things happening – on Saturday it was my birthday!! I am officially old. 🙁
My roommate and close friend gave me this fun card! How awesome is this!!
On Friday night, my other close friend and I went out to Milestone’s for dinner where I had the BEST cheesecake ever!! (After my mom’s homemade of course 😉 ) Their white chocolate cheesecake is one of my favourite desserts! I literally had to give the waiter my plate to take it away before I ate too much I burst – so worth it though!!
As I continue to move forward in my life and my rehab I know that there are wonderful things ahead for me. Sure, there have been some not so wonderful things that have happened over the last three years but even amongst the bad times there was always something good. Time spent with family and friends that I wouldn’t have had. Finding out who I can count on when the chips are down, and who I can’t. Also finding out who tough and brave I really am. I now know that I can handle anything that comes my way. I’ve got this, and I believe that you’ve got this to.
