How to pack for a weekend away

When traveling for a few days away, I like to pack light. Especially when I know that I am going to be doing some shopping while I am away. This way, I can wear some of my new items and I have plenty of room for them in my bag.

For this last trip, mom and I were heading to Erie, PA to do some shopping. It’s about a four hour drive from Toronto to Erie so comfort was key. Also, when going from store to store you definitely want comfortable clothing and shoes that are easy to slip on and off. I used my Aritzia weekender bag that I got to commemorate the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. This bag has seen a fair bit of travel. For a trip like this, I brought one pair of pants that I would be wearing going. I picked this cuffed pair of soft pants that I wear All. The. Time. They are seriously the best! I brought two tanks because the weather has been crazy hot! I got this teal one from Aritzia a few years ago and this bright pink one is a more recent addition from Dynamite. I picked up a bunch of these lace bralettes from Aerie in a variety of colours the last time I traveled to the States. With these bralettes you get great cover and they are so pretty so you don’t mind if a little bit peeks out. I also brought my poncho with me because sometimes it gets cool in the evenings. Also a lot of places crank the a/c so it’s always a good idea to have something that you can throw over you. I’ve become a hat person over the last few years. Out of necessity, but it also adds great visual interest to any outfit. Comfy sneaks are also a necessity. They slip on and off with ease when trying things on. They are also good for lots of walking. What can I say, shopping is my cardio! 🙂 Finally, I always travel with my iPad and keyboard case. It’s perfect for sending emails, or typing up notes.

A backpack for a purse is perfect. It keeps your hands free so that you can pick up more items 😉 It’s also lighter and easier on your back when travelling.

I’m very serious about my skincare routine and I always keep it up when travelling. I use the entire Vichy Normaderm line but when travelling I use products that can do double duty or my travel size versions. Every so often they put together a value pack that usually consists of travel versions of the full size products which I put aside for my next trip. Plus the face wash one you can easily refill for next time.

For makeup, I only pack the essentials. I’ve been using this eye shadow palette from the Body Shop and it is great for travelling as it comes with its own travel size brushes. I wear sunscreen everyday to protect my skin – as a fair skinned girl I burn very easily. I’m a huge fan of this La Roche Posay line because it goes on easily and it doesn’t make you look greasy like some sunscreens. I also always have a pack of mini nail files in my purse because you never know when you might break a nail – especially when you are away from home.

I kept my accessories simple, one lariat necklace, a trio of earrings and my double wrap watch (similar). This watch was a birthday present from a few years ago that I received after a difficult time in my life. It was to mark the start of better things to come. I wear it everyday as a reminder of what I have been through.

This is a peek into the kind of things that I bring with me when travelling. What are some of your must haves? Let me know in the comments below.
