Swing dresses are one of the most comfortable and classic pieces that you can have in your wardrobe. They can be worn so many different ways, no matter the season. Today I wanted to show a different way to style them that highlights your waist without going the typical route of belting it. This particular swing dress is old. I picked it up a number of years ago at a pop-up boutique. The Queen’s Trunk was co-created by Karen David who now appears on ABC’s Galavant and they sell a mix of British vintage and designer pieces that are either new or were worn once on the red carpet or on British television shows. This pop-up shop happens a few times a year and I’ve managed to score a couple of neat pieces over the years – like this beautiful knit patterned dress.
How much fun is a swing dress?!?
The Swing is the Thing
Typically when I wear a swing dress I would belt it to give it some shape but with the patterns on this dress a belt would cut through them disrupting their look. Instead, I chose to add a cardigan. I picked a tie-front bolero style cardigan that I’ve had for a few years now because I wanted to stick with a darker colour scheme and the darker teal colour of the cardigan matched up well with the colours of the dress. For this look, I went with a fun pair of patterned tights to play up the grey in the patterns of the dress. This dress could have also been styled with a cardigan in a different brighter colour but I thought that the patterned tights added enough impact to this look.
Cardigan: RW&Co (old, similar); Dress: Mina UK (old, similar style with long sleeves), Tights: Winners (similar); Booties: Nine West
The tie-front bolero gives this look some shape and definition without cutting through the pattern and disrupting its look. This dress has a fairly deep v-neck but instead of lining it with a camisole instead I am wearing a high-neck lace bralette from Aerie. I have become obsessed with bralettes!! They are so pretty and comfortable! Love them! I may have bought this one in all three colours (insert embarrassed face emoji here).

Cute dress! What device are you taking your photos from? I did a post about how to make Instagram images pretty, but it could help you with blog photos too. Like it would make sense to crop out your counter in those images, etc. Let me know if you’d like me to help you out! xx adaatude.com
Hi Ada, I use VSCO to edit my photos and I try to crop out as much of the background as I can without cutting off part of the outfit. I probably forget sometimes to check the background of the images to see if they need to be cropped. Any help you could offer would be appreciated!!

The cardigan goes perfectly with the dress!

Swing dresses are so fun! I can tell you wear this dress with confidence – it looks so great on you! I also love bralettes too – they’re so comfy. Once you try them, you won’t ever want to switch back to a regular bra. Love it 🙂

For sure Mary – I don’t know if I will ever go back to a regular bra!! 😉 lol
What a smart idea adding the cardigan to give the dress some shape instead of belting it. It looks great on you!

Thanks Christina!!
So fun with you leggings! I love the dots on the dress!
Thank you so much!!
Gotcha. Yeah in these images & in your newest post too, you want to crop the sides of the image so your counter doesn’t pop in. Sometimes I forget to do it too, but I definitely crop the images to perfection before I make the post live. It just looks cleaner when you crop those unnecessary background peeks. Also, what kind of camera do you use? Natural lighting is always the best! xx adaatude.com
I’m using a canon SX600 in these pictures. I try to get outside to take pictures as often as I can but it has been way to cold these days
Cute look! Love the pattern plays!
