When you first start mixing prints, it can be a challenge. There are some people who just have this skill down pat and others have to work at it. I definitely fall into the latter category In fact, there was a time, not that long ago even, when I barely wore prints! And when I did it was either on the top or the bottom and it was always paired with a solid. To be honest, usually a neutral. Then I progressed to using a solid colour with my print. This year however, I have decided to branch out of my style rut and to experiment more with fashion – better late than never, right?
Now, I mix prints often – and I love it! I am slowly starting to get the hang of it and I am becoming more “adventurous” with it but I still have a long way to go. If you are interested in learning how to mix prints, then follow along as I share what I have learned.
For someone who is just starting out at mixing prints and is a little apprehensive about doing it, I have just the trick. Start small by pairing two prints in the same colour family. You can also start with items that have small prints on them instead of a larger print.
I chose to wear a sheer white tank with black polka-dots layered over a black tank
(which I usually paired with either a white or a black cardigan)
but this time I paired it with a black and white stripped cardigan.
It’s a simple switch but I think it creates a really interesting look.
I then added a red belt for contrast and interest.
