NYC Travel Diary: Museum at FIT

When I was in New York this summer, I did the hop on/off bus tour through the city. As we got closer to the Fashion Institute of Technology, the tour guide told me that I might want to check out their museum. He could tell that I was a fashionista šŸ˜‰

The Museum at FIT, which is referred to as the most fashionable museum in NYC! šŸ™‚ Their mission is to “advance the knowledge of fashion through exhibitions, programs and publications”. Admission is free to the public and they are open Tuesday-Friday noon to 8pm and on Saturdays from 10-5pm.

During my visit, the museum was running their Uniformity exhibit which ran from May-November 2016. The exhibit explored uniforms social role and influence on high fashion. It was organized into 4 categories: military, work, school, and sports. In each category historic uniforms were juxtaposed with high fashion looks that they inspired.

This exhibit was really cool to see! Some of the high fashion pieces you could definitely seeing being worn on the red carpet.

Below is a sample of some of the images from the exhibit.

Taking the time out to check out the uniformity exhibit at the Museum at FIT was one of my favourite activities in New York. I love visiting museums especially when I travel.

The next time you are in NYC, why not pay a visit to the Museum at FIT and check out whatever new fashion related exhibit that they have on display. I guarantee you’ll have a great time!!

Charlene xoxo
