Over the course of this year I have done a lot of traveling for my mindfulness training with trips to California, Florida and New York. I also have several more trips planned before the end of this summer. A big part of my plan for 2016/2017 in addition to finishing up my mindfulness training and my masters program is to rebuild my endurance and strength from the accident. So exercising and staying active is very important. Especially when I am traveling as it is so easy for habits to slip when we are away.
How to stay active when traveling
One of my favourite workouts is to take a Pure Barre class. If you have never taken one before you should check out your local studio. This classes are a work.out!! You will feel muscles that you didn’t even know you had!!
I try to take 2 classes a week, spread out, so that I have time to recover in between. It can be so hard to lose momentum when traveling so for me it made sense to purchase a one year streaming subscription to a Pure Barre workout.
Since I typically travel with my laptop or iPad anyways it just made sense. All I needed to do was to throw in the resistance band that came with my subscription and a pair of sticky socks. I didn’t bring a mat with me on my recent trip to Chicago but luckily for me the Dana Hotel and Spa provides a yoga mat in every room – talk about great service!!
I set up my laptop and mat and I was able to get in a great workout. A streaming video exercise is a little different than doing the workout in a studio but it still targets the same muscle groups. Trust me, you will still work up a pretty good sweat!!
Streaming a workout is a great way to make sure you can fit it in whenever your schedule allows. There is no need to work your travel plans around the hotel gym or pool. The pool is usually full anyways which makes it impossible to get any kind of cardio in. With streaming you are your own boss and you can continue to use the same workouts at home as well as away.
Staying fit and active are a huge component of practicing self-care. If we don’t take care of ourselves, who will? Traveling may make staying active when traveling a challenge but it doesn’t have to be an impossibility.

This is great!!! I always have a hard time with this!
Thanks Alyssa!! It can be so challenging to continue to exercise when you are away so I appreciate how convenient a streaming exercise practice is
I don’t travel much but I think the streaming workouts would be perfect for my current lifestyle. With a family of two teenagers, a preschooler and a hubby who doesn’t like to share the television, I find myself without a dedicated space that I can workout. I do, however, have a laptop I can move to any room! Awesome idea!
That’s a great idea Tami!! I love the convenience of a streaming exercise routine
pure barre is great! I love running, because you can do it anywhere š

Running is such a great workout and one that I really need to get back into
LOL this post is calling to me. I don’t even stay active when I’m at home, let alone when I travel BUT I will say I get more workouts and walking in when I travel because there’s no excuse not to explore a new place! xx adaatude.com
I agree, that’s usually when I get the most walking done. It’s such a great way to explore a new city!
Full disclosure, I’m one of those people who will lose extra weight before a trip because I know I’m gonna eat, drink, be merry and not factor in time for a work out. I SO love that you can do Pure Barre in any part of the US. It’s so effective and addicting.
Sounds like a great system to make sure you enjoy your trip!!
