Review: The Bodyguard The Musical

Last month, my friend and I went out to see The Bodyguard The Musical. Like anyone who grew up in the 80s/90s I love the movie version. Who didn’t, right?

Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner are both pretty incredible in this movie. I had heard great things about the musical but I was still a little concerned. I had seen the Dirty Dancing musical when it came out and it did not live up to the movie version. Not everything can translate easily from screen to stage.

Let me just say that this musical definitely lives up to its hype!! It was amazing!!

Coming to Toronto direct from the London stage The Bodyguard tells the well known story about Rachel Marron and her bodyguard Frank Farmer. There are a few small tweaks from the original which helped to make the story Ā feel fresh.

Beverly Knight plays Rachel Marron and she does an excellent job in the role. Whitney Houston is an icon and she has some pretty big shoes to fill and Beverly Knight is more than capable of filling them!!

Her voice was amazing and she definitely does the role justice. Performing “I will always love you” which is a classic Whitney song (I know Dolly does the original version, but you know what I mean) in a role made famous by Whitney couldn’t have been easy but she killed it. Her voice is amazing!!

The Bodyguard the Musical is doing so well that they have extended there run here in Toronto until May 14, 2017. If you are planning on visiting Toronto sometime soon, you should definitely look into getting tickets!!

The perfect Girls night out

I love going to the theatre. Whether it’s seeing a play on my own or heading out with the girls. The theatre is always a good time.

The Bodyguard could be a great date night choice, but really, this is something that’s probably better to see with the girls. This way you can reminisce and swoon together.

The hardest part about seeing the Bodyguard on stage? Resisting the urge to sing and dance along! Luckily there is a mini concert during the bowsĀ at the end of the show that keeps the fun going.
