This Moment is the Only One that Matters

Be here now. This moment is the only one that matters, mindfulness, awareness, present moment

Happy Monday!! I’m writing this post after coming back from my 9 day Mindfulness practicum in Fort Lauderdale. I chose this as my Monday Mantra because I thought it fit well because it continues the theme of mindfulness.

I had initially planned to continue working on my blog while I was away. My mom came with me on this trip so that she could have a nice vacation so we tacked on a few days before and a day after the retreat to hang out together. While the retreat consists of long days, I figured I could blog for a bit before bed. I also thought that any free time I had could be spent working on the blog.

Our first night in Fort Lauderdale, I wrote a post about packing, which took me AGES with the spotty wifi connection in our room. When we moved to the hotel for the retreat I spent some time putting together some drafts for future posts but I decided to put the blog on hold until I came back.

Being In The Moment

Spending time with my mom during our vacation and being in the moment was more important. It’s funny, I actually felt really guilty about taking time away for myself! I think that is why I kept writing draft posts so that I wasn’t completely walking away from the blog.

My mom and I have been through a lot together over the past 3 years and this was a chance for us to hang out and do something fun together. So I took it. And I enjoyed every moment!! As I continue to get stronger throughout my recovery, I’m doing more and more and eventually I will be able to return to work full-time. So getting away with my mom for 2 weeks in the sun won’t be happening as much.

Mindfulness is all about the awareness that arises by paying attention to the present moment on purpose, with kindness, curiosity, and non-judgment. I decided to take this approach and apply it to my holiday. And it was great!! I actually was able to enjoy my trip! I made some new friends in my program and mom and I got to see a bit of Fort Lauderdale. We had a great time and I will be posting a travel diary and some tips of things to do in Fort Lauderdale over the next few weeks, so stay tuned!!

Charlene xoxo
