Happy New Year!! A new year brings with it a new start. Reflecting back on the past year can help to guide us as we move forward. The year 2016 taught me many life lessons. Each experience and moment from the past year teaches you something. Here are my biggest life lessons.
2016 life lessons
The importance of saying no. I’ve learned that there are only so many things that I can accomplish in one day. And just because I want to do something doesn’t mean that I should. Saying no and setting limits for myself was one of the biggest lessons I learned this year.
How to have a successful week. Figuring out what tasks to accomplish on a Sunday night, and planning things out for the week ahead has really been helpful. When you know in advance what your week will look like you can make any necessary adjustments.
How to take care of your body and health by observing what you eat. After discovering that I am gluten intolerant I had to make some serious adjustments to my diet. It hasn’t always been easy but it’s meant fewer migraines and I don’t get sick as much. Not getting sick definitely outweighs eating a slice of cake!!
Why you should move outside of your comfort zone. This past year I have definitely pushed myself out of my comfort zone!! From travelling alone, to seeing a play by myself, I’m making decisions to do things that I enjoy. These experiences have taught me a lot. There is a lot of freedom in travelling alone. Travelling alone gives you the chance to meet new people. Time spent travelling alone lets you get to know yourself in a way that you otherwise can’t.
How a mindfulness practice can get you out of your shell. I have always been really shy. Even after my accident, I was still pretty shy. A mindfulness practice is the one thing that has helped me to overcome my shyness. It’s actually pretty crazy how much it has helped! Like, I can actually talk to people now in a way that I never could before. The ways that mindfulness has helped with my shyness are too many to list here. It needs it’s own post which is coming soon.
[emaillocker id=5071][/emaillocker]These are the biggest life lessons that I learned this year. When I look back at the start of 2016 to the end, I can see so many shifts and changes. What I have learned will stay with my for this year.
As the New Year unfolds, new goals will be created. The past year’s life lessons will continue to guide and shape the path that we walk.
Take a look back over your last year. What life lessons have you observed for yourself?

One thing I need to work on this year is saying “no” more often. I gave in and said “yes” too much last year and it didn’t get me far.

These are so on point! I wish I could be a Sunday preparer (I just made that up 🙂 ). I really have to work on that this year, especially with blogging!

Planning out my week is one that I’ve learned to do too, it helps me get into a rhythm on Monday and just make the whole week run more smooth!
