As a member of Influenster, I received a VoxBox which contained the following free products for testing and review purposes: the Visibly Deeper Colour Deepening Shampoo, the Visibly Deeper Colour Deepening Conditioner and the Visibly Deeper Colour Deepening Treatment.
Made with cocoa and evening primrose oil the Colour Deepening line from John Frieda aims to create deeper, richer and more lustrous colour by infusing rich, dark tones to your natural brunette colour.
I was very excited to try out and test these new products but I did have some concerns. On the back of the products it tells you to rinse hands immediately after use and to avoid contact with surfaces to prevent staining. This made me a little hesitant to use these products. Were they similar to a hair dye? Would the be safe enough to use around my scar? So I took these in to my doctor before using them. After reading through the ingredients I was given the green light to test them out on a small patch to see if there was any reaction. I tested them out, and there was no reaction, so for me they were safe enough to use.
I started off with just using the shampoo and conditioner. Both products have a muskier scent to them than I am used to but people kept telling me that my hair smelt great! (shrugs) I am sensitive to certain smells and I don’t like anything that is too strong or overpowering but the John Frieda line has a more mild scent that did not bother me. I found that my hair was super soft and manageable after using the shampoo and conditioner.
I then added in the Colour Deepening Treatment in combination with the shampoo and conditioner. With the treatment, you use it after you have shampooed and conditioned your hair. You comb it through your wet hair and leave it on for 5-10 minutes before rinsing. The treatment has the same musky scent as the other two products and after using all three I didn’t find the scent to be too strong.
Visibly Deeper treatment Review
I used all three of the products in my VoxBox several times and while I did find that my hair was super soft and manageable I didn’t notice much difference in the colour. When I added in the Colour Deepening Treatment I did notice a difference than just using the shampoo and conditioner but it was very subtle. I only left it on for 5 minutes so it is possible that I would notice more of a difference if I left it on for 10 minutes.
Overall, I would recommend these products to give a subtle richness to your brunette hair colour. With a product like this I would not expect a dramatic difference on my hair since it is pretty dark already. I think that if your hair is a lighter shade of brown it is possible that you would see better results. My hair colour is naturally closer to the after picture shown on the website already so any changes would not be that noticeable. However, based on how soft and manageable my hair was after using these products I would continue using them. I also liked that the product was safe to use on my sensitive scalp and scar.
