close up shot of this skirt – LOVE it!!

This rust coloured skirt from Forever 21 is one that I have had in my closet for a few years now. It’s a soft faux suede material and the colour is a burnt orange/rust shade; it is the perfect colour for fall. I love having a piece in my closet that I can pull out and wear again and again over the years. New clothes are always great but you want to make sure that they can work with the pieces that already exist in closet. This way you can breathe new life into the pieces that you already adore.

I sort through my closet on a regular basis. I’ve been doing it since I was a child under my mother’s watchful eye whenever we had an extended break from school. A routine that I still stick to now as an adult. That means that every Christmas, Spring Break and Summer holiday everything comes out of the closet and is tried on before being put back in to the closet. Since my accident I’ve let this slip a little. I had to move back in with my parents for my recovery so most of my clothes were at my place. Though, since it has been a few years now, I would say it’s close to 50-50 for each place. I am slowly starting to transition back to my place so I did a HUGE closet cleanout in the summer. A lot of my old clothes don’t fit right anymore, and my taste and style has changed a little. Plus I had to make room for the new pieces that I have picked up over the years. Whenever I cleanout my closet, I make three piles of the stuff that I take out: charity, my 12-year old niece, and stuff I am not ready to part with just yet. The stuff I am hanging on to goes into a wicker hamper in my closet and when I do my next closet cleanout, anything that hasn’t been put back into the closet, out it goes.

The best part of cleaning out your closet is coming across old favourites that you haven’t worn in a while. I also love seeing my niece wearing my old clothes. Sometimes she puts together the greatest outfits where I am like – “why didn’t I put those pieces together?!?” She is for sure a budding fashionista 😉

Thanks for reading!!

Charlene xoxo
