Guest Post: Show Me The Money – Closet Edition

Hey everybody! As I mentioned before, I am working on cleaning out my closet. Using either the KonMari Method or to simply base your decisions based on what works for you cleaning your closet is the way to freshen up your wardrobe for spring. I mean, who knows what is lurking there in the back of your closet?!?

Now that you’ve cleaned out your closet, what do you do with all your cast-offs? You can donate or do a clothing swap but you can also look at selling the items you no longer want. Jenna Firshe at Firshe’s Closet is guest blogging here today to tell all of my readers about how to sell your clothes on Ebay! Thanks Jenna for sharing your info!!

Show Me The Money – Closet Edition

First, let me say cleaning out your closet is important and I am so glad to be guesting blogging with Charlene who is sharing her closet clean out tips.  I also believe that if you love an item, don’t throw it away, put it away and come back to it.  Finally, be sure to donate the clothes that you don’t want to sell.

Now you have cleaned out your closet and have a pile of things you think will sell. Anything will sell on eBay. The question is what kind of profit do you want to make and what amount of time and energy are you willing to put in.  Is it worth it to sell something that will sell for $5 and will make you a $1 profit or should you focus on items that you can sell for $30, $40, or $50 plus and you get a much higher return?  We want you to have the best margin and profit possible for the time you put in.

What should you sell first?

  • Whatever season it is, sell that product first.  Yes it is cold somewhere and people are always going on vacation, but since summer time is approaching, start with your sandals, dresses, shorts, accessories, etc.

  • Then post shoes (and accessories) – shoes I find the easiest to post and the easiest to sell.  Also, there is a lot of competition, which is good for sales.

  • Next on the list is high end product. Anything high-end sells and sells fast.  It will also give you the biggest return; just make sure you don’t price it too high.

How to Sell – What to price it at, how to ship it, what do you do?

  • How to sell? – There are different ways to sell. I have friends who love the auction style selling and have made a good profit that way, but I am a believer in buy now.  I know what I want the product to sell for and don’t want to chance it.  I do use the make an offer feature and set an automatic price to decline.  Because I have clients, I have a profit to make for myself and those I sell for.

  • How to price? – The great thing about eBay is it tells you what other people are selling similar products for in both buy now and auction options. I normally price in the middle but closer to the high price.

  • What do you do for shipping? – I charge $5 for shipping shoes and everything else is free shipping. The price I charge has the pricing built in and is normally lower than the high market price even with the shipping included.

  • Make sure you allow returns (buyer pays for shipping).

  • Are you ready to take the leap? – If you are really in it to win it, buy a store.  It organizes your product and if you are fancy, you can use your html skills (that I don’t have) and make it really pretty and fancy.

Selling on eBay is all about finding your groove and making it your own.  You are selling in a sea of other sellers and resellers so make yourself STAND OUT.  If you are really dedicated you can take your product to the next level.  Learn more tips and tricks at Firshes Closet.
