A couple of weeks ago, 2 of my cousins were visiting Toronto from Ireland so of course we had to plan a girls weekend away!! I can’t think of a better way to spend the weekend then by heading to a winery.
Niagara on The Lake Wineries
Niagara on the Lake is about 1 1/2 hours outside of Toronto, close to the US border. We hopped into my cousin Lorraine’s car and headed out for an overnight stay but of course stopped at the wineries on the way! 😉
Fielding Estate Winery
We decided to start the day at Fielding Estate Winery because Lorraine had been there before and she knew that the wines there were good. As part of the visit, you get the opportunity to try several wines with your admission price which was $5. I’m a white wine drinker so I mostly stuck to whites. I did try a sparkling rosé which was super yummy!! My favourite wine at the Fielding Estate was the 2012 White Conception so of course I had to pick up a bottle to bring home with me. 😉
Our guide at Fielding recommended our next stop to us: Malivoire Wine. Good choice!!
Malivoire Winery
At Malivoire I tried their 2015 Musqué Spritz. This wine is SO good!! If you have the chance you absolutely need to try it. I think all of us would agree that it was one of the best wines that we tried that day. I may have bought two bottles of it. I may also be looking into how I can purchase more when I finish my stock 😉
Now, you can’t have some wine without a little cheese. 🙂 Luckily right outside the Malivoire winery there was a cheese truck. The Cheesy Guys, are an artisan mobile cheese truck that had set up outside the winery and let us test their wares. They were so generous! They let us sample so many different varieties of cheese, they even made suggestions of cheese that they wanted us to try. Each one was so delicious!!
They also served Grilled Cheese Sandwiches out of their truck and honestly, they need to call it something else. These sandwiches are not your typical grilled cheese sandwich. They use like 46 different kids of cheese! 46!! Each bite was like a different flavour. My mouth is drooling just thinking about it. Seriously, it was that good. nom nom nom
Spending the day touring the different wineries in your area is a great way to spend the time during a girls weekend away. I mean, who doesn’t like wine? Make sure you have some snacks to keep you going, unless of course you can find the Cheesy Guys mobile truck. In that case, get the Grilled Cheese – you won’t be sorry.
