Visiting Ashford Castle: What to do in Ireland

One of the things that I love about Ashford Castle are the beautiful old castles that you can find. Visiting Ashford Castle was definitely on my list of things to do!!

Visiting Ashford Castle

Ashford Castle is in County Mayo, Ireland. This is actually the county that my mom is from so we tend to spend a lot of time here. My Aunt and Uncle took us there to spend the day sightseeing. It was a lot of fun!!

This place is stunning!! I mean, just look at it.

Ashford Castle dates back to 1228 and these days it operates as a hotel and restaurant complete with spa. It’s the perfect location for a fancy Irish wedding!!

If you are visiting Ashford Castle, make sure you give yourself lots of time. The grounds are pretty impressive. You will definitely want to take a leisurely stroll.

During my visit, I passed a couple taking a falconry class!! How cool would that be!! I casually and super subtly took some pics 😉 The falcon got really close to me but unfortunately I didn’t manage to get a snap. They are beautiful birds!

We spent our day visiting the grounds at Ashford Castle but there are so many things you can do here. Spa weekends, afternoon tea, golf, tennis, a visit to a wine cellar. What’s not to like? Plus you can spend a night in a castle. And who wouldn’t want to do that?? Definitely something to put on my bucket list.

What to wear when Travelling

For a day of sightseeing I knew that I wanted to be comfortable for driving around and of course still look cute 🙂 It was the beginning of September so it was a little chilly. Layers were definitely a must!! This plaid shirt dress (last seen here) with a black sweater on top was the perfect look! These silver sneakers are cute and comfortable! Love them!!

I have to say my visit to Ashford Castle was one of the highlights of my trip! This place is so gorgeous!! But, that’s the thing about Ireland, there are so many gorgeous places to visit.
