50 shades of grey

Well, really it’s only 2 shades of grey not 50 but I couldn’t resist. Truth be told, I borrowed the books from a friend of mine and I read them and I know that I am in the minority here but I didn’t enjoy them. (shurgs) To each their own I guess.

donating old clothes

If you follow me on Instagram, you would have seen that the other day I donated some clothes to charity that I had cleaned out of my closet. Whenever I clean out my closet I sort the clothes that I am passing on into three piles. The first is clothes to pass down to my niece, the second is clothes that I think I can sell and the third pile is of clothes that I am donating to charity. From this lot of clothes, my niece got a new summer dress and a cardigan and her mom got a new purse. When selling clothes, I bring them to a place called Plato’s closet, that buys your clothes and then resells them. It’s a franchise which used to only be in the states but they recently opened a location near Toronto. When I would go to the states with my parents I would always bring a bag of clothes to sell there and then drop whatever they didn’t buy off at the Salvation Army. Plato’s closet usually doesn’t buy much but it’s a pretty good way to make a little extra cash – at least enough for a couple of Starbucks!!

The clothes that I don’t sell, I donate to the Ontario federation for Cerebral Palsy (CP). It’s a great organization who will come to your house and pick up items that you are wanting to donate. Here is a list of items that they will take. This year, I found another organization to donate some of my items to. I set aside my old suits, dress pants, blouses and blazers to donate to Dress for Success. Dress for Success accepts clothing for men and women that is suitable for a job interview. It’s a great way to help someone out who is looking for a fresh start.

I had sorted out my closet several months ago but only got around to donating the items this week. Which means that I forgot what I was going to donate. I had to re-bag the items into plastic bags to be ready for pick up by CP and I was going through them I came across this grey sweater and as you can see, I decided to give it another turn in my closet.

floral knee-high socks

how fun are these socks!!

Socks: Winners; tights: Burlington Coat Factory; Booties: Nine West; Skirt: Dynamite; Sweater: RW & Co

I bought this grey sweater a long time ago, and I’ve always liked it. When I had considered getting rid of it, I did feel a little hesitant about it. When I saw it again I still felt ambivalent about parting with it, so out it came. I almost immediately decided to wear it in this outfit so I guess it was a good idea that I rescued it. I picked up this cheetah print skirt last year and it’s one that I wear often. I really like the print. Leopard or cheetah print works really well as a neutral piece in your wardrobe. For a bit of oomph I decided to wear my new floral knee-high socks with this look over my tights. I usually wear my knee-high socks when I wear my riding boots and if I am wearing booties I would scrunch them down. For this outfit I thought that it would be fun to wear them pulled up so that you can see the design on the socks. I really like how it turned out. A little bit of fun in your wardrobe is always a good thing in my book!

the truth about not having a photographer

Real talk: I don’t use a photographer to take my photos. I set my camera up on a tripod and I use an app on my phone that acts as a remote. It also lets me view the images on my phone before hand so that I can make sure I’m not cutting off my own head!Ā  I do think that eventually I should work with someone who can help me with my photos. Using a tripod is not ideal but for now it works.

Thanks for reading,

Charlene xoxo
