How to know if it’s it worth it? Determining cost per wear

Happy Friday!! Today, I want to talk about how to know if a big purchase it really worth it. Whenever I might buy something that is more of a splurge item, I try to figure out it’s cost per wear.

Is it worth it?

I like to shop, I mean, who doesn’t? When I shop though, I like to make sure that I am getting my money’s worth. Too many times in the past I have bought something on impulse that just ends up sitting in my closet never worn. No more. I’ve been on a massive closet cleanup lately and I won’t let anything in unless I ask myself “Is it worth it?”

By determining an items cost per wear, I will know if I will truly get my money’s worth from that “must-have” item. Take my Stuart Weitzman boots for instance. These were definitely aĀ splurge!! Spending that kind of coin on a pair of shoes isĀ definitelyĀ not something that the Frugal Fashionista does often!! Or ever really. I’m very much an outlet/sale shopper who most often gets her clothes from Winners or the mall. #noregrets.

As I mentioned when I got the boots, they were a big ticket item that I bought myself to symbolize the end of one stage of my recovery. It was a bit of a turning point for me and I wanted something to special to commemorate it. These boots were my number one choice!

I’ve worn them several times before, either on the blog or in real life, and I will definitely continue to wear them! A pair of great boots are an investment piece so it’s important that you know whether or not you will get a lot of wear out of them.

When I decided to pick up these OTK boots I made sure they were perfect. I tried them on SO many times in the store. I must have tried on every OTK boot that Stuart Weitzman makes in every single colour before picking this cranberry shade.

It probably would have made the most sense to go with black or beige but I am all about the colour lately! I loved this shade and I knew that it would give all of my outfits a pop.

Determining how much an item costs/how much you will wear it is a simple way to determine cost per wear. This simple formula can help you to decide whether to splurge or to hang onto your pennies for another day.
